Activated Bentonite Clay
Activated Bentonite Clay is natural bentonite clay that has been chemically treated—usually with acid (HCl, H₂SO₄) or sometimes with alkali or thermal activation—to enhance its adsorption, bleaching, and purification abilities.
It is also known as: Activated bleaching earth, Acid-activated bentonite, Activated fuller’s earth.
Uses of Activated Bentonite Clay
1. Edible Oil Industry: Used for purification and bleaching, removing pigments (carotenes, chlorophyll), reducing free fatty acids, clearing impurities and oxidation products, improving color, stability & shelf life of: Soybean oil, Palm oil, Sunflower oil, Groundnut oil, Coconut oil, Rice bran oil
2. Industrial Oil Purification: Used in: Petroleum refining, Lubricating oil purification, Paraffin and wax decolorization, Transformer oil treatment, Grease and biodiesel purification.
3. Wastewater Treatment: Adsorbs heavy metals, Removes dyes from textile effluent, Eliminates chemical contaminants, Helps in industrial water recycling
4. Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics: Used as a mild decolorizing and purifying agent, Clarifying agent for herbal extracts, Used in skin detox formulations (non-acidic grades only)
5. Chemical Industry: Catalyst or catalyst carrier, Adsorbent in chemical reactions, Used in pigment and dye removal
6. Food & Beverage Processing: Clarification of fruit juices, Beer & wine purification (limited & food-grade only), Removal of tannins and unwanted colors
