Foundry Grade Bentonite
Foundry Grade Bentonite is sodium or calcium bentonite clay specially processed for use as a binder in the foundry (metal casting) industry.
Its main role is to provide green strength, plasticity, and thermal stability to molding sand used for casting metals such as iron, steel, and aluminum.
Uses of Foundry Grade Bentonite
1. Metal Casting (Primary Use)
Bentonite is used as a binder in: Green sand molds, Foundry molding sand, Core sand mixtures. Metals poured: Grey iron, Ductile iron, Steel, Aluminum, Brass and bronze
2. Sand Reclamation: Helps in reusing molding sand multiple times, maintains consistency in green sand systems.
C. Hot Strength Improvement: Improves high-temperature resistance of the mold during metal casting.
D. Moisture Control: Bentonite absorbs water and helps maintain the right moisture level in molding sand.
E. Green Sand Additive: Reduce defects, enhances mold wall strength, improves collapsibility, provides smooth cast surfaces.
